COSTUME & MAKEUP

The makeup in our video is minimal and uses subtle colours. We kept it in this style because bright, obvious makeup is more typical of pop artists such as Katy Perry, and we wanted to keep Maia's star image more alternative than that.

As shown opposite, all of the girls in our video are dressed in pink. We did this in order to appeal to the target audience of teenage girls and to maintain one of the meanings of her star image, femininity. This consistent styling is especially important for an up and coming artist like Maia. This pink we used is quite flesh-toned, which also adds to the sensuality of the video.

Maia's style and makeup were important aspects of the music video because they add to the feminine star image and appeal to the target audience of teenage girls, for whom beauty and fashion are key interests.

Another music video that uses style to highlight an artist's star image is Kali Uchis' video for Tyrant, in which she has multiple outfit changes whilst still keeping the same style throughout the video, which maintains the meanings of her star image - sexual magnetism (wearing minimal clothing), rebellion and originality (colourful, wacky outfits).
